(or how we got here)

It has been 20 years or so since I started, like so many others who accessed the internet at the time, to start an LJ - it went on for a couple of years before it petered off. Since then, the internet has evolved so as to make it increasingly difficult to give people a presense that was not inside the walled gardens of Facebook, and now Instagram and the likes. Facebook Groups posts are not indexable / searchable, and a lot of the interaction in Facebook groups / Discord / Whatsapp groups is lost to the world (except as data for training FB / Google etc). Reddit, as of today, is the only exception where there is public interactions in a static pages persists. Perhaps even Twitter but not sure how long that will last

This is old fish though - what calculus would have been undertaken, someone thinking, all this data, all your thoughts, all your interactions… is mine./
